Facebook Ads: Just Say No

I had an interesting conversation on Twitter a few months ago on the subject of Facebook ads. Essentially, they’re just an expensive way of buying ‘fans’. You may as well spend your money on those sites hawking 1,000 fans for the price of a coffee. For most B2B brands, Facebook ads are simply a waste of money.

    I tend to disagree. Yes, Facebook ads are a complete waste of money when not used properly – most companies, brands, agencies haven’t got a clue. However, when used in the right way, like any ad medium, they can help drive impact, engagement and action.

    Social and online ads will get your content in front of the right audience, but if your content is crap then your campaign won’t perform. Simple! When it comes to measurement, it should be set up to track the complete consumer journey including action beyond the social ad click, that way you can truly measure the campaign’s performance, not just the performance of an ad unit.
